Brief outline of the series:

It’s A.D 43 and the Roman Imperial Army are in Britannia to crush the powerful Druids and claim the lands for the glory of Rome!

Review: Britannia season 2:

Ok, so before the start of season three, I am going to try and review season two of Britannia! I must admit, I haven’t gone back and watched season two before doing this review, (it’s now 2021!) but anyway I think I can remember enough of season two for a quick review.

Just a quick note – season one of Britannia tv series was 90% rubbish and I do believe it was almost cancelled!

Thankfully season two puts more focus on the druids and the story between Divis, Cait and Veran / Harka. I do believe by doing this, it has actually saved the show and enable it to come back for a third season.

Mackenzie Crook is excellent as Veran/Harka, he was great in season one and is even better in season two, playing both parts must have been really hard (the make-up time alone must have been hours a day!)  but this is one of the best roles I have seen Mackenzie play.

The story between Cait and Divis has just the right balance of comedy and seriousness to really make it work, the journey between them from season one to season two is excellent but it really comes into it’s own in season two!

Eleanor Worthington-Cox is excellent as Cait, a young girl who’s whole life is changed forever and taken on a wild journey by the outcast druid Divis, played superbly by Nikolaj Lie Kaas.

I still feel that the one weak link in the whole show is Aulus played by David Morrissey, I really do not think the role fits his acting style and I think this is why season one did so badly because the main focus was on Aulus! In season two there is a bit less focus on Aulus and he isn’t in all the scenes, which really improves the show! Please note, I am not a fan of David Morrissey, so maybe I am a being a bit harsh!

I won’t go into the stories or anything like that, as I don’t want to give anything away or spoil anything for people that might not have seen season one or two!

All in all, Britannia is worth the watch, I would sit through season one so you can get a feel for the characters and how things start but just remember that things do improve in season two.
