Raised By Wolves is a science fiction drama produced by Ridley Scott. The creator of the series is Aaron Guzikowski. The series is shown on HBO Max and Sky Atlantic.
Brief outline of the series:
“Earth is torn apart by religious differences, two androids are sent to start a godless colony on a far away planet but struggle to control the beliefs of their fiercely self-determining children”
Review:
Not to sure where to start with this one! After watching the full series, I feel like this never really got going and ended up being something that left me confused about the whole series.
I am pretty sure they will being this back for a second season tho because it seems like abit of money was spent on this and sky atlantic did advertise this a fair bit, the fact is was produced by Ridley Scott seemed to be a big selling point for the series.
The story seems to drift away from the main idea of two androids trying to save mankind from it’s own religious beliefs and starts to focus more on the ‘mother’ android character and I feel by doing that, Raised By Wolves some how starts to lose it’s way from about episode seven.
Good performances from good cast holds the series together, Winta McGrath & Felix Jamieson are great as two of the young cast, Jordan Loughran puts in a strong performance as ‘Tempest’. Travis Fimmel is great as ‘Marcus’. Even tho this is a series & the cast is good, I don’t feel like you really get to know the characters or are able to build up favourite or sometime of connection, which let’s the series down!.
For me, there seems to be a range of different stories which are going on but you never really get to full understand any of them, you get around five – ten minutes in different episodes and it leaves you feeling like:
- ‘why was that left there’
- ‘why didn’t we get to see more of that’
- ‘who was that’
I won’t go into the stories or anything like that, as I don’t want to give anything away or spoil anything for people that haven’t seen the series yet, I just felt like in parts, it more a little fast and just skipped over details instead of laying some down foundations and building up to things a little slower or just putting in a few extra scenes with more detail. I think the final episode was one to forget and different really make sense.
After saying all of that, I do thing this is an ok watch and it should come back for a second season, if a few changes are made!
Renewed
At the time of writing this Raised By Wolves has been renewed for a second season by HBO Max. I would say it might hit the screens sometime in autumn / winter of 2021 BUT with the ongoing covid-19 pandemic, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was 2022!
